Jonathan Shaffer is no stranger to high school sports, having covered preps action for various newspapers, online publications and radio stations for over a decade.
Shaffer, 27, was the assistant program director and a personality for ESPN 106.7 The Fan in Nashville, Tenn. For three seasons, Shaffer hosted “Football Friday Night”, a high school football scoreboard show with On The Ball Magazine’s Doug Dyer, and “High School Sports Saturday”, co-hosted by the Tennessean’s Jeff Lockridge, for two years. Shaffer also hosted “The Tailgate Show” and “Pro Football Postgame”, The Fan’s anchor Tennessee Titans coverage, with former Titans president Jeff Diamond. Shaffer co-hosted a Monday night show with Tennessee Titans safety Chris Hope for two seasons and was a co-host and producer of “The Thom Abraham Show”, which won the 2008 Nashville Achievement in Radio (AIR) awards for Best Afternoon Talk Show and Best Talk Show. Shaffer has been a guest on several national radio and television shows, including “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on ESPN Radio, “Two Live Stews” on Sporting News Radio, ESPN.com, and ESPNEWS.
After arriving in Middle Tennessee in July 2004, Shaffer covered Cheatham County high school sports for The Ashland City Times. His work has appeared in the Tennessean and neighboring Gannett newspapers. Shaffer also provided play-by-play and color commentary for the Tennessee High School Sports Network during the 2008 TSSAA BlueCross Bowl and the 2009 TSSAA Basketball Championships.
Shaffer, a Knox, Pa. native, began his radio career in September 2000 at WCCR/WWCH in Clarion, Pa. During his tenure, where he was eventually elevated to operations manager and sports director, he produced the award-winning “Football Friday Night” high school football program. His play-by-play, color commentating and sideline reporting duties included high school baseball, basketball and football.
